Alexia Chascsa has been viewing the world through the camera lens for as long as she can remember. Encouraged by educators to pursue academia, she went to UofM Ann Arbor as a pre-med student. While studying John Keats' Ode to a Grecian Urn in humanities class, "Beauty is truth, truth beauty" resonated deeply and illustrated the connection between beautiful artworks and profound thought. Abandoning medical aspirations, Alexia began to explore painting, sculpture, and fine art photography at Concordia University and the University of Arizona, influenced heavily by abstract expressionism's focus on the act of creating and portrait photography's ability to both reveal or conceal the truth of a subject. While working for the campus marketing department, Alexia was hired as a second photographer for a wedding by the Department Head. This was the organic beginning of a wedding and portrait business.
When her husband joined the military, the frequent relocations guided Alexia's continued practice of art and academics. After earning a Master's in Psychology through Harvard University's Extension School, she returned to the intentional act of creating artwork that speaks both to beauty and intellect. Her photography is built on the idea of intentionality and viewing the subjects in a way that we cannot see without the lens of the camera. She also works in digital collage - stacking images to explore the intrinsic link between memory and experience. Once a moment is experienced it becomes a memory, joining, recalling, stirring in with each encounter, making every convergence explicitly individual.
While primarily a Fine Art photographer, Alexia continues to paint and practice portrait and wedding photography. Alexia is a member the Professional Photographers of America, the Guild of Arts and Artisans, and the Brighton Art Guild, exhibiting in spaces such as libraries and traditional galleries, art fairs, and in private collections. She lives on a homestead with her husband and two young boys - all exceptional photographers in their own rights. When not working in the studio (that is, taking over the family dining room with projects), she is cooking, reading, or playing with her children - her biggest source of joy.
